Garterbelts – A Stylish Classic

What is a garterbelt and what does it do? Garterbelts are one of the sexiest undergarments on the market. These little gems attach around the waist and have small drop latches that attach to hosiery of different styles. One might compare them to a pair of panties with no bottom. They come in a variety of materials including silk, satin, leather, and lace to name a few.

Garterbelts can be worn under clothing or for that special someone on a sexy, romantic night. There is nothing sexier than watching someone unsnap her hose from a garterbelt and slowly roll them off a pair of shapely legs. You have seen this in movies. The hidden garterbelt suddenly and surprisingly appears on your favorite movie star, and the buckle is popped open with a jolt. Surely you would agree. On the flipside, the garterbelt that you are wearing in secret to surprise your lover creates enthusiasm on your part as it gives you the upper hand with the element of surprise. It is extremely titillating for both of you. You feel sexy, you look sexy, and therefore you are sexy.

Garterbelts have been in existence for a very long time. Their main purpose was to hold up a woman’s stocking before the invention of panty hose or knee-highs. They were a necessity in women’s attire. After the invention of panty hose, the garterbelt fell by the wayside for a time but has made a huge comeback in the world of sexy lingerie. It is no longer need for utilitarian purposes, so the garterbelt is considered a sexy and pleasurable piece of lingerie. They have come full circle in the realm of ladies clothing and are as popular now as ever. Traditionally, brides wear a garterbelt with the garter being removed by the groom once the two are wed. Only after the ceremony, is the groom allowed to see that much of the bride’s leg (I did say “traditionally”). Once the groom removes the garter, he throws it amongst the young single men, and the lucky young man to catch it, is the next one to wed. This is a strong tradition and a practice that is found in many ceremonies of today.

The garterbelt is still used today in a variety of manners. Some still hold to the traditional utility purposes of snapping on a pair of hose. Most of us, however, wear them for that extra special sex appeal that we feel when we wear them or for the reaction that we get from a special evening with that special someone. Whatever your reasons, garterbelts have been around for generations and I expect they will be here for many generations to come. They are a classic piece of lingerie that never seems to go out of style.
